Verify your site with different tools
Each search engine has a tool that gives you feedback on how your site is doing in their search results, and that tells you how these search engines perceive your site. Baidu’s tool is called Webmaster Tools, as are the tools of Bing and Yandex, and Google has Google Search Console.
In the Site connections settings, you can verify your site with the respective tools. You can do that by entering a little piece of code that the tools generate for you. Of course, you have to decide for yourself which tool is important for your site. On this page, we’ll discuss Google Search Console as an example. Verify Google Search Console
We always recommend you verify your site with Google Search Console. However, we believe the method Google recommends for verifying your site is not the easiest method. Still, we’ll quickly discuss it, so you know how it works. Google recommends that you download an HTML verification file and then upload that file to your site. When the file is uploaded onto your site, you have to confirm your upload by clicking on a link and by clicking ‘Verify’ in Webmaster Central. This is quite a lot of work.
The Yoast plugin offers an easier method of verifying your site with Google Search Console. Let’s go through the steps one by one.
- Go to ‘Alternate methods’ on Google Webmaster Central.
Here, click ‘HTML tag’. Google will give you a meta tag.
- Copy the meta tag.
- Paste the meta tag into the verification box on the Webmaster tools tab of Yoast SEO.
- Click ‘Save changes’.
- Go back to Google Webmaster Central to click the button ‘Verify’.
