Regan Khadgi receives the Yoast Care fund for his contribution to the WordPress community

Meet Regan Khadgi, a cherished member of the WordPress Community Team! His dedication and valuable contributions to the community are the very reason why Anand Upadhyay nominated him for the Yoast Care fund. Let’s get to know this passionate WordPress enthusiast a bit better.

Let’s get to know Regan Khadgi

That’s quite an introduction, Anand! We would love to get to know Regan even better. That’s why we asked him some questions about his work and his passion for WordPress:

Hi, Regan! What do you do?

I would like to introduce myself as a WordPress Solutions Engineer who can give a solution for any level of WordPress website, especially in high-traffic websites.

Currently, I am working as a WordPress engineer for Plantura, a German-based gardening company, and Onlinekhabar, a national news portal in Nepal that has very high traffic. In these roles, I am responsible for the development, maintenance, and optimization of their WordPress websites and, as part of my role, providing any solution they need.

I also develop WordPress plugins. I have two open-source, free plugins hosted in a WordPress plugin repo, which I have maintained for around seven years and plan to continue maintaining. They have around 9000+ and 5000+ active installs.

Why WordPress?

I started using WordPress in 2012 and never looked back. This is the primary reason why I am still within the WordPress ecosystem. But there are also various other factors, such as its flexibility, continuous updates and upgrades, superb documentation, and nonetheless superb community, which I am also a part of and am really proud of.

This really makes me feel that it’s not just software but a whole ecosystem that you can rely on to build your career and network.

Why did you start contributing? Could you share your first contribution with us?

One of the strongest pillars of WordPress is community and contribution, which is what the whole foundation of WordPress is based on. Since I am also making my entire living from WordPress, I feel it’s also my duty to contribute to the community so that WordPress continues being developed and maintained.

My very first contribution was organizing a plugin development Workshop in 2015 in WordCamp Nepal. There, I taught how to create and submit a WordPress plugin to the WordPress plugin repository. A lot of people attended and told me they’d learned a lot from the workshop. I believe many also started developing WordPress plugin afterwards.

What contribution or moment are you most proud of?

I have been co-organizing many WordCamps around Nepal. Now, I am also actively involved in WordCamp Asia as an organizer since its first edition. So, I would say I am proud of being a Program Team member in WordCamp Asia 2024. Most of the sessions were fully packed, and sometimes, there wasn’t even a place to stand. So yes, I would like to call WordCamp Asia 2024 my proudest contribution moment.

People can find me co-organizing WordCamp Kathmandu. I’m also attending the WordCamps around Nepal, because I never miss any WordCamps around my country, and of course during WordCamp Asia 2025, where I am leading the Volunteer’s Team.
