I'm a senior developer at Yoast. But I started my career at the biggest Dutch jobboard for temporary work. With a small team we managed to score particularly well in organic traffic. I started as a front-end developer, but had to help out on the back-end part often as well. After a while I got to know the entire application and found my real passion: improving the effectiveness of my colleagues and seeing them grow.
Luckily I was able to do this in many ways: gathering and reporting challenges faced by colleagues, refactoring code to follow SOLID principles, creating a testable codebase alongside a nice test suite, setting up tooling and build pipelines, but also outside of the IDE through educating interns and colleagues in both soft and hard skills.
Now I’m working for Yoast, I hope to be able to do the same thing for my new colleagues, but also gather new knowledge myself to continue growing as well.
